Modern Bridal Bouquet Styles Every Bride Should Know
A bouquet should be as unique and special as the bride holding it. When it comes to bridal bouquets, there are many, many styles to choose from. And when you add different flowers, colour palettes, and the magic touch of your florist, a bouquet can perfectly complement your personal style on your big day.
For a newly engaged couple, it can be overwhelming to nail down a vision for your flowers. To get you started, here are some of the most requested bridal bouquet styles that we see at Heirloom Florals as a Vancouver wedding florist.
Round Bouquet
Round bouquets are a classic for a reason and never seem to go out of style. Round bouquets mean there is no “front” to the bouquet. It is circular in shape and will look good from any angle. Traditional round bouquets suit the formal bride and often feature only one or several flowers.
Round bouquets don’t have to be a tidy, perfect circle. A good florist will have their own signature style, no matter the type of bouquet. My versions are very dreamy with lots of dancing flowers and organic movement.

Hand-Tied Bouquet
Hand-tied bouquets are my specialty! Also known as a garden bouquet, this style is meant for those who want a loose and lush-looking bouquet. The shape is unstructured, with both greenery and flowers creating a very textural look. This style also goes well with a trailing ribbon.
I offer many variations for different price budgets for hand-tied bouquets, whether you want to be more flower focused or include spreading greenery. Contact me for my price guide to see all the different flower options for your wedding.

Cascading Bouquets
Cascading bouquets have come in many different forms over the years, but the base elements hold true. These bouquets angle downward, with the stems and base for the bride to hold nearing the top of the arrangement. Cascades create a dramatic and flowy look.
There have been many modern cascading bouquets that are making the rounds on Instagram and Pinterest. These typically involve a lot of wiring work, which means each flower is individually wired through the stem or base of the flower. This allows the florist complete control over the placement of the flower, oftentimes creating unique and structural shapes.

Posy Bouquet
Posy bouquets are smaller-sized bouquets, typically some variation of the hand-tied or round. These are what you typically see bridesmaids or flower girls carrying, but some brides also request them. They’re great for courthouse weddings or elopements, or to match a simple wedding dress or suit.

Structural Bouquet
I had to include this on the list of popular wedding bouquets because structural bouquets are all the rage right now. Trendy brides are leaning heavily on the odd and bold, favouring bright coloured flowers with interesting and unique shapes.
The shape of the bouquet is unconventional, with flowers giving height, curvature, and flow, depending on the design and florist.
One thing to note about these styles of bouquets is that they often feature unique and not local flowers. Which brings me to my next point…

A Note on Premium Flowers
Premium flowers are featured heavily in bridal bouquets because, after all, your bouquet should be the star of the flower show. Many of the inspiration pictures brides send me feature lots of these premium flowers, which can come with a higher price tag compared to more local, seasonal flowers.
When looking for inspiration, these flowers are usually considered premium:
- Amaranthus
- Anthurium
- Calla lilies
- Dahlias
- Hydrangeas
- Orchids
- Peonies
- Ranunculus
- Roses

How to Prepare to Meet Your Florist
Before heading into a consultation with your florist, be sure to have a general budget in mind. Also, take a moment to peruse their Instagram or portfolio to ensure you like their past work, since every florist has a slightly different style.
Inspiration pictures are always welcome. For me, pictures from my own portfolio or anywhere else on Instagram, Pinterest, or online are welcome. They can help me get an immediate sense of what you’re looking for as well as a price range for that style of bouquet.
