Meet Laura Brandt: The Heart Behind Heirloom Florals

Meet Laura Brandt: The Heart Behind Heirloom Florals

Flowers have always been a part of my story. Long before Heirloom Florals was born, I found myself drawn to their quiet beauty—the way they bring people together, mark life’s milestones, and carry emotions that words sometimes cannot. In 2017 fresh out of floral design school, I took a leap and started Heirloom Florals. I poured my passion for florals into every bouquet, arrangement, and installation. Seven years later this business remains a reflection of my love for artful design, personal connection, and the power of flowers to transform a moment.

I recently moved from Abbotsford to Vancouver and dream of opening an in-person store in the city. Serving clients throughout the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver area has been an incredible journey. I look forward to many more years of bringing fresh life and vibrance to events across this wonderful region.

Beyond flowers there are so many things that shape who I am and inspire my work. My love for color theory began in a university art class and remains one of my favorite aspects of floral design. The way hues interact, the emotions they evoke, and the balance they create—it’s an art form in itself. Whether crafting a wedding bouquet or a large-scale installation, I approach color with the same passion and intentionality that first sparked my love for it years ago.

I’m also a hugely tactile person. Working with flowers—feeling their textures, arranging them into something meaningful, and being hands-on every day—is my dream job. Heirloom Florals is not just a business to me. It’s a way of bringing beauty, emotion, and artistry into the world. I’m so grateful for every person who trusts me to be a part of their most special moments.

Outside of my work, I find inspiration in many places. I’m a huge thrifter. Combing stores in all parts of the world and coming home with the perfect treasure is one of my favorite things. The thrill of finding something unique with history is a feeling I chase both in my personal life and in my floral designs.

I’m also a huge reader constantly drawing inspiration from novels. There’s something about the worlds created in books that fuels my creativity, whether it’s the vivid descriptions, the intricate storytelling, or the emotions they stir. And when it comes to storytelling, I have a deep love for period pieces—especially Pride and Prejudice (2005). The costumes, the music, and of course the floral design all feel so timeless and romantic to me.

Outside of my floral work, I’m an animal lover through and through. I will stop to pet every dog and cat I see no question. And if I’m not working or reading, chances are I’m traveling. Whether with friends, family, or on my own, traveling is one of the most rewarding things I do. Every new place offers inspiration, new textures, colors, and experiences that shape my approach to design and life.
